Market Notes ~ A Visit with Kim

Saturday was a very special day for me at the Beaverton Farmer's Market. Kim, better known to us as The Ungourmet, stopped by my booth to say hello. She told me ahead of time that she might be there and I recognized her immediately from her blog photos and the video she posted a few days earlier. She is so sweet and friendly, petite and so very pretty. And I was delighted to meet her.

The Benedictine Sisters of Mt. Angel have a booth where they sell Monastery Mustards, Divinely Dill for one, and coffee cakes. I went to a Catholic School my whole life and was taught by nuns, but I've never met any like these two lovely ladies who come to the farmers market wearing tie died T-shirts.

Beets, squash, peppers, potatoes, carrots: all fresh out of the fields.

Can you believe these peppers? Now is the time to roast them to freeze for winter.

Aren't these heads of cauliflower beautiful? I can picture them, blanched and marinated, on a vegetable platter.

Squash blossoms, fresh herbs and pea shoots

Bins of fresh corn. My new favorite way to prepare corn is with lime-cilantro butter and cotija cheese. Click on over to For the Love of Cooking to see Pam's recipe. It is out of this world!

Beautiful heads of lettuce picked the morning of the market.

A view down one of the aisles about an hour before the market opens. The vendors are early birds. I arrive at 5:15 a.m. to start my day.

Miss Blueberry, a representative of the Oregon Blueberry Commission, was handing out flyers with lots of blueberry information and some great berry recipes. Check out their website.

You'll find lots of tempting blueberry recipes.

Hope you enjoyed your trip through the farmer's market on a very hot July day.

Please tell me about your market, what makes it special, what you think is the best market prepared food, what products you like best and eagerly wait for. I want to hear all about it.

  5. Hi Everyone - Thanks for stopping by.

Katie - The market is every Saturday until the end of October, 8:00 am to 1:30pm. There is a special Thanksgiving market the Saturday before the holiday, same hours. This is a great market and the perfect place to stock up for winter.

I hope you will come to visit. I LOVE meeting fellow bloggers.

  8. Hi Libby - I wish I could transport you here for a couple of hours so I could give you a market tour. Its pretty amazing. We have 175 vendors, and the market is agriculture only - no crafts.
